Address:
Chicago, Illinois, United States
Description:

Twist Out Cancer provides psychosocial support to individuals touched by cancer through creative arts programming. We are a global community that enables survivors, previvors and caregivers with opportunities to share, connect, and heal. Our community is a unique forum for individuals impacted by cancer to experience healing through the creative arts. Through storytelling and art, we educate, inform and inspire the community to act. Since 2012, our programming has touched the lives of more than 250,000 people in 27 states and 8 countries. As we continue to empower the cancer community to openly share their experiences, we strive to inspire the next generation of leaders and artists to share, connect, and heal.

Twist Hearts Service Project is designed to guide participants through expressive arts directives (any form of self-expression counts! Art, dance, music, baking, sewing, crafting, etc!) that allow them to explore their inner creativity and focus on the love that has resulted from the experiences they share within themselves and their community. Through this experience, individuals will learn about Twist Out Cancer’s mission and create artwork to be publicly displayed at their school, faith community, or another approved location. Participants will design a workshop and/or curate the art show to help educate observers on the benefits of creative arts therapy within the populations that TOC services. The artwork created can then be used to fundraise for Twist Out Cancer programs to help individuals who have been touched by a cancer experience.

GOALS OF THE PROJECT/SERIES

  1. Develop a project to support creative arts therapy and psychosocial support for individuals impacted by cancer.
  2. Provide a safe and creative space for participants to explore personal relationships and their experiences of love within relationships, self love, community love, and/or love as an emotional/state of being.
  3. Use creative arts therapy/ expressive arts directives and prompts to explore deeper emotional connections and enhance expressive communication, both verbal and non-verbal.
  4. Provide a safe space for reflection, learning, and connection for students, adults, and anyone that participates in the Twist Hearts Service Project.
  5. Build camaraderie, connection, and community through non-clinical creative arts therapy.
  6. Create individual or group artworks that can be exhibited at a school, gallery, and re-produced into wearable items, prints and gifts on the Twist Out Cancer Store to help fundraise for TOC programs.

Project Scope:

  • Design and curate a community art workshop or art show to educate observers/attendees about benefits of creative arts therapy. *This will be the responsibility of the participants, not Twist Out Cancer.
  • Fundraise for future Twist Out Cancer programs through the proceeds of the art show/ online shop.

Who we are

We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.

We started extending help to needy children and youth who were eager to study and work for a better life. This moment intensified when we found that there were many such underprivileged children who needed help with food, shelter and education. Our team expanded and we spread out in different regions to make sure we cover all possible areas and help as many children as possible.

We now run shelter homes, schools and a reasonable mess that helps such needy young people. We also have our helpline offices spread throughout the country so one can approach us anytime they need help.

Our approach

Our Mission
Our mission is to make sure all young people and children get all the support they need, when they need it, no matter what it is.

Whether it is a reassuring conversation, financial help, education, professional training, or simply the assurance that they are not alone, we will make sure that everyone gets support that meets them where they’re at as quickly as possible.

Our Vision
We want to build a world where no child or youth feels alone and gets every possible help they need as soon as possible.
Our entire team wants to see a world where every youngster struggling in any way feels able to reach out and has people who’ll help them with education, jobs, and more. We want to spread out in every region so we’ll be reachable to all.
