Jewish Big Brothers LA

JBBBSLA provides one-on-one mentoring with paired “Littles” (children aged 6-18) and “Bigs” (screened volunteer adults). JBBBSLA also owns and operates Camp Bob Waldorf and offers college guidance and scholarships for program alumni. Every year, JBBBSLA helps more than 1,500 Jewish youth fulfill their potential through life-changing programs that facilitate mutually rewarding mentor relationships and support personal development.

What will I be doing?

Support Camp Bob Waldorf (for “littles” or kids with some other hardship) by volunteering in the summer by coming on to camp to lead projects or games. You can also collect books for a camp library or craft supplies to be used at camp over the summer. Another option is collecting supplies and running a booth at the Camp Bob Waldorf annual family fundraiser, which supports camp programming. There are many other ways to get involved. North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry

North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry is a volunteer-based coalition of organizations and individuals from around our community looking to end the growing problem of food insecurity by distributing over
320 non-perishable food bags every Monday and Friday – 52 weeks a year.

YES (someone to drive student from food packing site to distribution site).

What will I be doing?

Packing and distributing food in the San Fernando Valley. You can also run a food drive to collect food to be used for distribution. To volunteer with NHIFP, send an email info@nhifp.org.

The Peoples Concern

The People Concern is a leading provider of, and advocate for, evidence-based solutions to the multi-faceted challenges inherent in homelessness and domestic violence. With compassion and profound respect for those we serve, we provide a fully integrated system of care – including outreach, interim housing, mental and medical health care, substance abuse services, domestic violence services, life skills & wellness programs, and permanent supportive housing – tailored to the unique needs of homeless individuals, survivors of domestic violence, challenged youth, and others who have nowhere else to turn.

What will I be doing?

Volunteer for The People Concern by creating a holiday gift drive for children/families who are victims of domestic violence, create welcome home kits for those who are getting back on their feet and moving into housing, or you can prepare meals offsite and drop it off and to be served to those who are living in their transitional housing locations. As the COVID-19 pandemic improves, they will be reopening for onsite volunteering where students can come in and serve meals or host a game night. Midnight Mission

Founded in 1914, The Midnight Mission has been offering a path to self-sufficiency to men, women, and children experiencing homelessness. As a comprehensive homeless shelter and homeless services provider serving the Los Angeles homeless community, we take an approach that fuses care and compassion with meaningful accountability, providing the structure and the resources that people experiencing homelessness need to truly improve their lives.

What will I be doing?

In-person can be food sorting or join in to sort clothing on a Friday or Saturday. Students who are not vaccinated can make sack lunches from home and deliver them to the mission.

Project Chicken Soup

Project Chicken Soup is a non-profit organization that prepares and delivers free, nutritious, kosher meals to people in the greater Los Angeles area living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses. These services are provided with love and compassion to all persons regardless of faith or religious belief. Project Chicken Soup provides nutritious food and comfort to make a difference in the lives of people in need, serving them with dignity and respect in a nurturing environment.

What will I be doing?

Volunteer for our Sunday cook and delivery activities. If you would like to volunteer, please notify us by Wednesday of the preceding week – either by E-Mail or by phone. -We have some great ideas for Mitzvah projects! – Project Chicken Soup is a wonderful place for youth to earn Community Service Hours. Our Kitchen and Delivery Supervisors will be happy to confirm all hours worked. -Children 12 to 14 years old must be supervised by a parent or guardian when working in the kitchen. A two to one ratio of children to adults is required for children between the ages of 12 to 14. Due to safety reasons, children must be over the age of 12 to volunteer in the kitchen. With parental supervision, volunteers under the age of 12 are invited to pack breakfast bags and nutritional supplements in the front room. -For safety reasons, we can not accommodate groups of children under 14 years old. A two to one ratio of children to adults is required for children between the ages of 14 to 15. For our younger volunteers we welcome off-site activities such as decorating shopping bags or making holiday cards for our clients.
