Hands on South Florida (Broward Chapter)
HandsOn South Florida mobilizes thousands of people each year to revitalize schools, parks, playgrounds, nonprofits and neighborhoods. Our volunteers create art in public spaces, build sustainable gardens, teach financial literacy, respond to disasters and work to protect the environment. Opportunities to make an impact are available year-round on a daily basis to people of all ages.
HandsOn Broward offers a Flexible Volunteering Model that makes volunteering more convenient for you. There is no long-term commitment, and we offer a variety of projects that fit your schedule and interests. All projects are offered on our online calendar, to help you find something during a day and time that works for you, and are led by HOB Project Leaders or agency partner staff.
Anyone can browse our database, but in order to register for some service projects, you'll need to become a member. It's easy, free and secure. You can use your volunteer profile to keep track of your community service hours. You can also create a volunteer team and sign up your friends, family, or co-workers for a service project in just a few clicks. Create your volunteer profile here.
We partner with more than 200 nonprofit local agencies to provide you with a wide range of volunteer opportunities to make it easy for you to find something in your area that fits your schedule and connects to something you're passionate about.
If you are under 18 years old, you'll need to download the minor release form and have your parent or guardian return to us in order to complete your registration.
Be sure to sign up to receive our monthly e-news and e-blasts about new projects!
Family Volunteering
Interested in getting your family involved in volunteering? You've come to the right place! At HandsOn South Florida, we love to engage youth and families in volunteering and want to make it as easy as possible for you to get started.
How can I sign myself and my children up for a project?
In order to sign up together as a family, an adult in the family will want to form a "Team."
When you are logged in to your account, click here to Create a New Team. You fill in the names and ages of friends/family members and you're all set. Then, when you sign up for a project, click "Sign up with a team" next to the "Sign" Up button.
Then you'll follow the prompts to sign up yourself and members of your team. As long as there is space available in the project, and all volunteers are over the minimum age requirement, you should be all set.
Need additional assitance? Click here to learn more about Team Sign-Ups.
Does my child need to have a waiver on file?
Yes, in order for anyone to volunteer, this waiver must be on file with our office. If you're not sure if your child's profile has been updated, please contact D'Jaine at djbrown@handsonsouthflorida.org and he can let you know. Otherwise, print and complete the waiver and email to us or fax to 954-233-1292 and we'll keep it on file.
What projects are available for children and families?
Our Kindness Crew meets monthly to work on projects designed to be engaging for kids 5-12. Each month features a different project/issue area. When you register for a project, you'll find out more about what's in store that month. For more information about Kindness Crew and how to sign up, click here.
Teenagers can join our Teen Service Squad to get access to a different project each month designed and led by HandsOn South Florida staff. For more information about Teen Service Squad and how to sign up, click here.
You can also check out our Youth Volunteer Guide which lists all of our age specific youth friendly volunteer opportunities.
What can we do as a family at home?
Do It Yourself ("DIY") Volunteering provides a meaningful way to engage volunteers in a non-traditional way.
Every month, HandsOn South Florida will offer a different DIY project for the ultimate flexible volunteer experience. For these projects, you'll provide the supplies (all are designed to be low-to-no-cost) and we'll give you the instructions for completing it, along with information on the benefiting agency.
